Lakers Take Down #21 Nationally Ranked RPI

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Oswego took their first game in the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa opening game against #21 nationally ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Fueled by top-scoring Julien Crittendon with 13 points, followed by Brendan Mulson with 12 who was matched by Kaleb Cook.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first seven points for the Lakers were scored by Senior Brendan Mulson.
  • The Engineers answered back to Mulson, outscoring him 10-7 in the first 4:17 of the contest.
  • At 14:03 of the first half, Lakers' Kaleb Cook hit a three-pointer to give his team their second lead of the game (12-11).
  • After an RPI hookshot, the contest was scoreless for nearly four minutes as both teams turned the ball over multiple times from 12:26-8:53.
  • The green and gold held the majority of the offense in the final ten minutes of the first half.
  • From 12:26-3:02 the Lakers went on a 14-2 run led by newcomer Christian Simmons with seven of the 14 points.
  • Oswego went into the second half with a seven-point lead (29-22).
  • Just twelve seconds into the second half the Lakers' Devin Green knocked down a shot beyond the arc to extend their lead.
  • RPI found their second wind early in the second half, going on a 6-0 run from 17:26-16:39 of the second half bringing them within four (32-28).
  • After being fouled beyond the three-point line, Julien Crittendon knocked down three clutch free-throws to give Oswego another seven-point advantage.
  • With 4:16 to go in the contest Devin Green extended the Laker lead to 11 (51-40).
  • Not letting up the Crittendon added four more points to take their lead to 17 after a pair of layups by Mulson and Green.
  • RPI scored the final four points but the damage had been done and the Lakers took down the #21 nationally ranked Engineers by a score of 59-46.
  • The Lakers went 13-15 from the free-throw line at 86.7%.
  • Oswego also shot 40% from the field to RPI's 31.4%.
  • Jeremiah Sparks showed his versatility as he added six points, six assists and seven rebounds in 33 minutes for his team.
  • Green and Simmons both finished with seven points and six rebounds.

        The Lakers take on St. John Fisher tomorrow for the championship of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa tournament
        hosted by St. John Fisher. The tip-off is set for 3:00PM.
