SUNYAC Release

OSWEGO, N.Y.
– Oswego State's Jason Leone was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Basketball Coach of the Decade today by the conference office.  Leone joins former Lakers Brian Sortino, Hayden Ward, and Chad Burridge in earning All-Decade accolades.

At the conference level, Leone has guided the Lakers to four SUNYAC Championships since being hired in September of 2011.  In each of those seasons, he was named the Conference's Coach of the Year.  He has a 114-48 (.704) conference record and has coached 30 All-Conference selections, including three SUNYAC Players of the Year and two SUNYAC Rookies of the Year.

Nationally, Leone's teams have earned five trips to the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships during the decade with trips to the Sweet 16 in 2016 and 2019.  Eight players have earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-Region honors and four were named to All-America Teams, with three earning First Team honors.  As a result, Leone was named Regional Coach of the Year twice by the NABC and three times by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY).

Leone posted an overall record of 181-75 (.707) in helping Oswego to the highest winning percentage, most total wins, and most NCAA Division III Championship appearances when compared to every other team in the NABC East Region during the entire decade (includes the 2010-11 season).

The Lakers are coming off a 19-8 season, including a 12-6 SUNYAC record in 2019-20 with Joe Sullivan and Jeremiah Sparks earning All-Conference recognition.
