OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State softball team fell in their home debut to the Knights of Geneseo in the conference openers for both teams.  Geneseo won the first game 9-1 (5 innings) and the second by a score of 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

• Geneseo used a walk, sacrifice and single to take a quick 1-0 lead and added another in the top of the first inning.
• A pair of errors led to another two runs in the bottom of the second inning for the visitors.
• Oswego would cut into the lead when senior Madelana Wrubel singled and advanced when second baseman Aleah Yaizzo reached on an error.
• Sophomore Fiona Higgins would deliver an RBI single to make it 4-1.
• A walk and a double spurred a three-run inning for Geneseo in the top of the third.
• The Knights would close things out with a pair of singles and a triple in the top of the fifth to go up 9-1.
• Higgins (0-1) took the loss despite only allowing three earned runs and striking out three.

Game 2

• In the second contest, sophomore Madison Hoeflich held Geneseo scoreless through three innings.
• The Knights broke through when they singled home a runner who had reached second via error to go up 1-0.
• Oswego had its best chance of the afternoon when Leah Czerwinski reached on a bunt single, reached second on a passed ball, and stole third.
• A walk to Zoe Mennig followed by Samantha Morgan being hit by a pitch loaded the bases.
• Geneseo was able to induce a strikeout to cling to their lead.
• A pair of doubles and a single from the Knights in the top of the fifth gave them some insurance and they held the Lakers in check from there.
• Hoeflich (1-1) went the distance for the second time this season, striking out four and yielding four earned runs.

The Lakers return to action tomorrow at 11 a.m. when they take on Brockport in conference play at home.
