Softball Splits with Brockport on the Road

BROCKPORT, N.Y.
- The Oswego State softball team roared back from an opening game disappointment to win a thrilling second contest by a score of 7-6 and earn a doubleheader split with Brockport.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first game, Oswego got a homerun from first baseman Taylor DuBois and a pair of hits from Aleah Yaizzo in the 8-1 setback.
  • The Lakers were undone by a third inning grandslam as sophomore Fiona Higgins took the loss.
  • Oswego was in control during the second contest behind Higgin's bat as she went 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Yaizzo had a bases-clearing double to stake the Lakers to the early lead.

  • Things got interesting in the bottom of the seventh with Oswego up 7-5 as Brockport loaded the bases with no outs.
  • Sophomore Madison Hoeflich got a forceout at home, a throwout by senior outfielder Leah Czerwinski on an RBI-single, and a flyout to left to earn the save.
  • Tai Smith matched Higgins with three hits and two runs in the game and Wrubel also had a pair of hits and runs for Oswego.
  • Higgins (2-6) bounced back with two and third innings of one-run ball for the win and leads Oswego with 49 strikeouts on the year.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will test their mettle against SUNYAC East leading Cortland on Monday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at the Laker Softball Field.
