Lakers Experience First Loss of Season

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Oswego State Field Hockey team suffered their first loss of the season to the Yellow Jackets of Rochester. After a quick first quarter goal, the Lakers could not find an answer to Strenk of Rochester. 

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Rochester 4, Oswego 1
  • Location:  Rochester, N.Y.
  • Records:  Oswego 4-1, Rochester 4-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego picked up right where they left off against Sage, in the first one minute and nine seconds, the Lakers had a shot on goal, a penalty corner and a goal.
  • Alyssa DeMichael gave the Lakers the 1-0 lead at the 1:09 mark of the first quarter. Jenna Rogers assisted the goal.  
  • Erica Scheblein was tested in the first quarter, brushing off two scoring chances by Rochester.
  • Three minutes into the second quarter Rochester tied the game at one.
  • The next five minutes was controlled by Rochester, scoring their second goal 23:32 into the contest.
  • Just over one minute later, Rochester netted their third of the game, giving them a two-goal lead.
  • In an effort to take control of the game, the Lakers took five shots in just over a minute near the end of the first half.
  • With three minutes remaining in the half, Oswego was awarded a penalty stroke, the shot was wide.
  • At half the score remained 3-1.
  • The Yellow Jackets wasted no time in the start of the second half, pouring on the offensive pressure.
  • Scheblein and the Laker defense stood strong, fighting off three shots and a penalty corner in the first two minutes and thirty seconds.
  • Nancy Pagliaroli had multiple chances in the third quarter, earning three shots on goal in just 27 seconds.
  • The Laker defense stood tall, keeping their deficit at two going into the final quarter.
  • With just eight seconds remaining, the Yellow Jackets added their final goal to give a final score of 4-1.
  • Ellie Kazel in 22 minutes played, finished the match with three shots, all of which were on goal.
  • Scheblein finished with five saves.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will host the Cardinals of St. John Fisher for their senior day. Start time is set for 11:00 a.m. at Laker Turf Stadium.
