Lakers Downed by Pioneers in Offensive Battle

UTICA, N.Y. – Oswego was defeated by the Pioneers of Utica by a margin of one goal. Pagliaroli (6), Simzer (6), and Mastracco (11) were the goal scorers for the Lakers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Nancy Pagliaroli added another goal to her stats sheet in her first year as a Laker, giving her team a 1-0 lead just over six minutes into the second quarter.
  • Jenna Rogers assisted the Lakers first goal, bringing her season points total to seven. (7A)
  • Utica fired back almost immediately, scoring just over one minute later.
  • After multiple shots and a penalty corner taken by Leah Romanowski, Kacie Simzer added her sixth goal of the year, giving her team their second lead of the game.
  • Coming out of the first half, Utica added a goal to tie the game at two.  
  • Erica Scheblein fought off four shots from the Pioneers in just over two minutes, keeping her team in the contest.
  • Utica held the offensive pressure in the first 10 minutes of the third quarter, at the 39:43 mark Utica took the lead. (3-2)
  • Oswego answered back almost immediately, tying the game for the third time of the competition.
  • The goal was scored by Kaitlyn Mastracco (11), giving her a team-leading 24 points on the season.
  • The rest of the third quarter was scoreless as the Lakers and Pioneers went into the final frame tied at three.
  • With multiple penalty corners and shots from both sides, defense and goaltending was the theme of the fourth quarter.
  • Both defenses fought off multiple scoring chances, Utica scored the game-winning goal with 6:31 remaining in the final quarter.
  • Scheblein at the duration of the game had 12 saves.

The Lakers return home to take on the Hawks of New Paltz at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 2nd.
