Field Hockey Falls To Red Dragons In Double OT

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Field Hockey team had their second SUNYAC matchup today versus the Oneonta Dragons. The Lakers fell to the Dragons in double overtime this afternoon by a score of 2-1. 

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 1, Oneonta 2

Location: Laker Turf Stadium, Oswego, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Defense dominated the first half of the contest, with neither team getting a shot on goal. Oswego managed to get 2 shots off in the first quarter, both missing the goal. 

  • The Lakers had chances in the first quarter with a penalty corner from Erin Schaefer (7:12; 7:22) to Kaitlyn Mastracco but the shot was blocked by the Red Dragons.

  • The Lakers showed a strong offensive performance in the second quarter, but were unable to get on the scoreboard.

  • The Lakers had 6 penalty corners in the first half.

  • Kaitlyn Mastracco finished the first half with two shots, one for Molly Darcy.

  • Oswego finished the first half with 3 shots, none on goal, while holding the Dragons to none.

  • The Lakers put the first point on the board just three minutes into the third quarter. Bryleigh Beauchat had her first shot blocked by Tumino. However, Beauchat was able to get the ball into the back of the net after the save. Beauchat notched her first goal of the season.

  • The Dragons were able to get their first penalty corner in the game in the third, and they were able to capitalize. The Dragons tied the game at one with just under ten left in the third.

  • The fourth quarter was a defensive performance by both teams. Erica Scheblein had four saves in the fourth quarter. 

  • The Lakers had a chance in the fourth to pull away, getting three back-to-back penalty corners. However, the Lakers failed to capitalize again.

  • The Lakers had 11 penalty corners in regulation, and failed to connect on any of them.

  • We saw a match go into overtime this evening, with the score being 1-1.

  • The Red Dragons found a spark in the first overtime, getting five shots on goal, but Scheblein was a force to be reckoned with, not allowing a goal.

  • The Lakers had a chance early into the first overtime with a penalty corner but Mastracco missed JUST wide left.

  • Score remained 1-1 going into double overtime.

  • The Red Dragons continued to push the pace into double overtime. 

  • Oneonta was able to sneak the ball in to score the game winning goal in double overtime. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego will travel to St. John Fisher University on Tuesday October 4th for their next matchup. Oswego will be looking to get back in the win column after falling to Oneonta.
