#13 Lakers Take Down #9 Soaring Eagles 5-2

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Hockey team hosted the Elmira Soaring Eagles this evening. The Lakers had an impressive performance, earning their first win of the season.

THE BASICS

Final Score: #13 Oswego State 5 (1-1, 0-0 SUNYAC), #9 Elmira 2 (1-1, 0-0 NEHC) 

Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena & Convocation Hall, Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers struck first, scoring just under 10 minutes into the contest. Scoring the goal for the Lakers was Shane Bull, assisted by Connor Sleeth.

  • Oswego would receive a power play from a holding penalty on Elmira. The Lakers would get their second goal of the night on the power play. Scoring for the Lakers was Connor Sleeth, assisted by Matt McQuade.

  • The Lakers had 22 shots in the first period of play.

  • Oswego came out strong in the second period, scoring their third goal of the evening only 19 seconds into play. Scoring for Oswego was Daniel Colabufo, assisted by Tommy Cahill.

  • The Lakers would score their fourth goal of the evening halfway through the second period. Scoring for the Lakers was Tommy Cahill, assisted by Shane Bull and Ben Addison

  • A late penalty in the second period would give the Soaring Eagles a power play, which allowed them to score their first goal of the evening.

  • Oswego had 1:51 of a power play carry over into the third period from a hooking penalty on Elmira.

  • The Lakers kept their foot on the pedal, scoring their fifth goal less than 4 minutes into the final period.Daniel Colabufo scored his second goal of the evening, assisted by Tommy Cahill.

  • A hooking penalty on Matt McQuade gave Elmira another power play, which gave Elmira their second goal of the evening.

  • A Soaring Eagle ejection late into the final period sealed the game for the Lakers, as they played a man up for 5 of the last 6 minutes due to a 10-minute penalty major..

  • Richie Parent finished the game with 18 saves, earning his first victory as a Laker.

The Lakers will host the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Friday November 4th for their annual Whiteout Weekend game. The puck drop is at 7pm, don't forget to wear white!
