Lakers Take Cortland to Overtime, Fall 2-0 In Postseason Play

CORTLAND, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Soccer team traveled to Cortland for their semifinal matchup against the #1 seeded Red Dragons. The Lakers fought hard, falling in double overtime to Cortland.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 0 (9-6-4, 3-3-3 SUNYAC), Cortland 2 (13-1-3, 8-0-1 SUNYAC) 

Location: SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex, Cortland, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The match was fairly even in the first half of play. The Lakers were able to get  7 shots off, while Cortland was able to get 6. 

  • The Lakers had less fouls than Cortland, by a 4-7 margin in the first half. Perri Anderson recorded 2 saves in the first half. 

  • Neither team was able to score in the first half of play.

  • There was more action in the second half of play. Oswego had 8 shots in the second half, while Cortland had 9.

  • Still, neither team was able to score a goal, sending the game into overtime. 

  • Perri Anderson only faced 1 shot on goal in the second half, and was able to record her third save of the afternoon.

  • Oswego had 4 shots on goal in the second half of play, they couldn't reach the back of the net.

  • The first session of overtime was all Cortland. The Lakers had no shots during the period, while Cortland had 2. Anderson was able to record her fourth save in this period.

  • Cortland was able to pull away from the Lakers in the second period of overtime. The Lakers had their chances to stay in the game, they just had no answers for the Red Dragon defense.

  • Cortland was able to score their first goal halfway through the second overtime period.

  • At the 103rd minute mark, Katie Delgrosso hit the crossbar in hopes to tie the contest, but unfortunately for the Lakers, the rebound was controlled by the Red Dragons. 

  • Cortland delivered the final blow to Oswego with their second goal being scored with less than 10 seconds remaining in the contest. 

  • Lexie Thompson, Luigina Serrao, and Graisa Madden led the Lakers with 4 shots each, and Anderson finished with 4 saves.

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego finished their season with a record of 9-6-4, and a conference record of 3-3-3. Congratulations to the women on a great season!
