#6 Lakers Win To Take On Skidmore In Championship

SARATOGA, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Hockey team traveled to Saratoga to take on Wilkes University this evening at the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational. The Lakers were able to get up early into the matchup and keep the momentum rolling as they defeated the Colonels. With Cal Schell in goal tonight, the Burlington, Ontario native has become the only goaltender in Oswego State Men's Ice Hockey history to start a career with six straight victories.

Final Score: #6 Oswego State 5 (7-1, 5-0 SUNYAC), Wilkes 1 (2-6-1, 1-4-0 UCHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lakers put a statement up in the first minute of the contest, going up 1-0.

  • Shane Bull put the Lakers in the lead, scoring off of assists from Ryan Dickinson and Daniel Colabufo.

  • Alex DiCarlo would score another goal for the Lakers in the first period, coming at the 8:55 mark. DiCarlo would be assisted by Trent Grimshaw

  • The Colonels would answer with a goal of their own 15 minutes into the period, cutting their deficit to just 1. 

  • Oswego would lead 2-1 going into the second period. Cal Schell recorded 10 saves in the period. The Lakers went 1-2 on their power plays in the period, holding the Colonels to 0-2.

  • Shortly into the second period, Ryan Dickinson would score and give the Lakers a 3-1 lead over Wilkes, Dickinson was assisted by Ben Addison

  • About halfway through the period, Noah Bull would give the Lakers a 4-1 lead. Bull would be assisted by Brett Fudger and Connor Gatto

  •  Oswego would hold their 4-1 lead going into the third period. Schell would record seven more saves in the period, bringing his total to 17.

  • Halfway through the third period, Alex DiCarlo would record his second goal of the evening, giving Oswego a 5-1 lead. DiCarlo would be assisted by Ryan Bunka and Jackson Arcan.

  • Cal Schell would finish with 15 saves in the final period, bringing his total to 34 saves on the evening. Schell pitched a shutout in both the second and third period of play.

  • With this win, Schell became the first and only goaltender to start a career with six straight victories for the Oswego State Men's Ice Hockey team. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers will play Skidmore for the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational championship at 4:00P.M. Skidmore is looking to continue their hot streak against nationally-ranked teams this season as they have already taken down the previously #2 ranked Geneseo Knights 4-3 on November 5th and also tied the #7 Babson College Beavers in OT just last Friday. Both of these contests took place at their home rink in Saratoga Springs.
