HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Basketball team traveled to Hilbert College to face the Hawks this evening for their season opener. Once the Lakers took the lead, they never let the Hawks take it back, holding the lead for the entire contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers started off the game hot in the first quarter. The Hawks struggled offensively against Oswego's defense, only scoring 9 points in the first.

Oswego had no issues on offense, managing to score 23 points in the first. Karleigh Leo led the Lakers with 9 points in the first.

Logan Castiglione dished out 3 assists in the first quarter as well.

Diamond Pickett dominated the glass, grabbing 6 rebounds in the first.

The Lakers showed no signs of slowing down in the second quarter, continuing to hold the lead.

Late back-to-back steals by Pickett cemented the Lakers lead going into halftime. Oswego dominated the boards, getting 30 rebounds compared to the Hawk's 17. The Lakers controlled the paint, getting 20 points in the paint in the first half.

Oswego had 16 second chance points in the first half of play. The Hawks would rally and eventually cut the deficit to just 5 points.

Leading for the Lakers at the half in points was Karleigh Leo with 14; Pickett had 6 boards and 2 steals. Oswego had a 35-30 lead going into the second half.

Hilbert continued to struggle against the Lakers defense in the second half of play.

The Hawks went 2-9 from 3pt range in the third quarter. Oswego continued to control the glass, grabbing 14 more rebounds in the third quarter.

The Lakers had a 57-44 lead on the Hawks going into the fourth quarter.

Oswego built their largest lead of the evening in the final quarter, leading 62-44.

The Hawks had no answers for the Lakers, who dominated every aspect of the game.

Diamond Pickett had an outstanding game, recording a double-double on the evening with 16 points and 14 rebounds, shooting 70% from the field .

Karleigh Leo led with 20 points on the evening, shooting 44% from 3pt range.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will return home on Friday, November 11th for the Max Ziel Women's Basketball Tournament.The tournament is a 2-day tournament and starts at 5:30pm on Friday and 7:30 for the Lakers.
