Women's Lacrosse Falls Short of Red Dragons

OSWEGO, N.Y.  – The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team suffered a setback versus conference opponent SUNY Cortland 17-4 this evening. As she did last week, Sophomore Isabella Lembo scored twice for the Lakers, extending her season total to 13.

THE BASICS

Final Score: SUNY Cortland 17, Oswego State 4

Location:  Laker Turf Stadium - Oswego, N.Y.

Records: SUNY Cortland (9-4, 6-0 SUNYAC), Oswego State (4-9, 3-3 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Cortland struck early in the contest, putting up three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead.

  • Oswego put up five shots in the frame but ultimately couldn't find the back of the net against the fifth-year Cortland goalie.

  • Cortland continued to find scoring opportunities, converting on most of them and jumping out to a 11-0 lead with 2:30 remaining in the half.

  • Logan Castiglione found the back of the net with 46 seconds left in the half to finally get the Lakers on the scoreboard and narrow the Cortland lead, 11-1.

  • The third quarter was much of the same, as the Red Dragons tallied three more goals to extend their lead, 14-1.

  • In the fourth, Cortland struck again with two goals  but were quickly answered by two Laker goals to make the score 16-3.

  • The two scoring plays for Oswego were identical, Lembo tallying both goals and Castiglione assisting on both.

  • Both teams would exchange goals in the final three minutes of the contest, Madison Davis assisting Shae McConnell on the Laker goal to arrive at a final score of 17-4.

  • Sarah Kamide recorded ten saves on the day, while the team as a whole recorded 22 ground balls.
