Lacrosse Loses Heart-Breaker to Golden Eagles

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Men's Lacrosse team faced off against the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles in a night game, their first of the season. The Lakers and Golden Eagles battled it out on Laker Turf Stadium under the lights. The Golden Eagles took this one by a score of 13-12, scoring their game-winning goal with just 34 seconds remaining in regulation.

Final Score:  Brockport 13, Oswego 12 

Location:  Oswego, N.Y. - Laker Turf Stadium

Records:  Oswego (8-6, SUNYAC 3-4), Brockport (10-4, SUNYAC  5-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Weston Gray opened up the scoring in the contest just 1:19 into the contest. 

  • The Golden Eagles went on to score the next five goals, ranging from 11:08 in the first quarter to 10:19 in the second quarter. 

  • Gray scored the Lakers' second goal in the second quarter, assisted by Ryan Eccles

  • At the 8:25 mark of the second quarter, Eccles added another to cut the Golden Eagle lead to two goals (5-3). 

  • In a man-up opportunity, the Golden Eagles stretched their lead back to three goals at the 6:14 mark of the second quarter. 

  • This is where things got interesting for the Lakers, Oswego went on to score the next five goals spanning from 1:37 in the second quarter to 9:37 in the third. 

  • Included in these goals were; Gavin Elston from Eccles, Ryan Dumont from Gray, Corey O'Connor from Elston, Max Broadman from Eccles, and Elston from Eccles. 

  • This goal streak for the Lakers brought the game to 8-6 in favor of Oswego. 

  • From here, Brockport went on a goal streak of their own, scoring the next three straight goals and regaining the lead. 

  • This is where the back and forth goal scoring began. Owen Spearing tied the game at nines unassisted and just 29 seconds later Elston scored the Lakers 10th goal, taking the lead.

  • At 7:21 Cameron Tallman put the Lakers up by two goals. 

  • The Golden Eagles of Brockport went on to score the next three goals. The game-winning goal was scored at 00:34 remaining in the contest, a heart-breaking loss for the Lakers.

The Lakers will await the result of the Potsdam and Oneonta contest to see what their playoff chances hold.
