ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Oswego State Lacrosse team traveled to Oneonta this afternoon to take on the Red Dragons in the first round of the SUNYAC Championship tournament. The Red Dragons got out to an early lead and the Lakers clawed their way back, tying the contest in the third quarter. Oneonta ended up going up by four goals late in the final quarter and the Lakers got within two but were unable to close the gap in the final three minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Red Dragons came out fast, putting the first three goals on the board within the first five minutes.

At the 7:15 mark of the quarter Julia Quirk got the Lakers in the scoring column with a player-UP opportunity.

Isabella Lembo continued to find success on the offensive end, scoring a goal that was assisted by Sela Wiley with 3:02 remaining in the frame. This goal brought the Lakers within one goal (3-2).

Oneonta fired back with a goal of their own to make it 4-2 with 2:24 remaining in the quarter.

Logan Castigilione also continued her offensive tear on the playmaking side of things, she set up Shae McConnell with 1:57 remaining in the first quarter to cut it back to a one-goal lead for the Red Dragons.

Within a minute the Red Dragons were answering back to the late goal scored by the Lakers in the first quarter.

Oneonta scored their second goal of the quarter with 12:56 remaining, putting them up by three goals.

Madison Davis found Julia Quirk to cut the lead back to two goals (7-5) with 7:34 remaining in the half.

Wiley added her second assist of the game with 40 seconds remaining in the half, bringing the game to a difference of one. (7-6).

This was a huge momentum switch for the Lakers as they carried that with them into the second half.

Just 16 SECONDS into the third quarter, Wiley added another assist, setting up Castiglione to tie the game at seven.

Oneonta then kicked it up a notch, scoring the next three goals, spanning from 14:13-11:47.

This put the Red Dragons up 10-7.

Davis added another point with 11:02 remaining, this goal was assisted once again by Castiglione, her third point of the contest (1G,2A).

Oneonta took a 12-8 lead with 9:03 remaining after scoring two straight goals.

Wiley set up Julia Quirk with 1:45 remaining in the third stanza, this was Wiley's fourth assist of the contest.

This goal brought the contest back to a three-goal difference going into the final quarter.

Oneonta opened the scoring in the fourth quarter to bring their goal total in the game to 13.

Quirk took care of business herself with 11:29 remaining in the contest to bring the game back within three.

Oneonta fired back at 9:15 to regain the four goal lead.

Oswego scored the final two goals, the goals were scored by Quirk and Davis and assisted by Lembo and Wiley. This was Quirk's six goal and Wiley's fifth assist of the contest.

This brought the Lakers within two but the clock proved to not be on the Green and Gold's side as the Red Dragons took the 14-12 victory in the SUNYAC tournament first round.
