NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Oswego State Field Hockey team suffered their first SUNYAC loss to the Hawks of New Paltz this afternoon. Erica Scheblein recorded her 300th career save in the contest with her third save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Oswego State Field Hockey team suffered their second loss in a row this afternoon to the previously ranked New Paltz Hawks.

The Hawks scored their first goal just 5:26 into the contest.

The remainder of the first quarter slowed down.

Oswego had a chance off of a penalty corner taken by Erin Schafer late in the quarter, Kaitlyn Mastracco gathered the pass from Schafer and fired one just wide.

The score remained 1-0 after one.

The Hawks kept the pressure on in the second quarter with multiple penalty corners in a row.

From 17:32-18:04, New Paltz had three shots on goal and two penalty corners after a green card was assessed to the Lakers.

At 18:15 of the contest, the Hawks struck again, extending their lead.

Frustrations set in as the Lakers were dealt their second green card of the quarter, giving New Paltz the momentum.

The Lakers were able to fight off three shots and two penalty corners to end the half with the score remaining 2-0.

Five minutes into the second half, New Paltz struck again on a penalty shot pushing their lead to three goals.

This came after three saves back to back by senior goaltender Erica Scheblein.

With another green card and a yellow card, the Lakers held the Hawks to three goals going into the final quarter.

Unfortunately, just 38 seconds into the fourth quarter the Hawks scored their final goal of the contest, giving them the four-goal lead.

Oswego put the pressure on eight minutes into the final quarter.

Kaitlyn Mastracco scored her eighth goal of the season on a penalty shot to bring the Lakers within three.

Oswego fought off two late shots in the final minute, to keep the Hawks lead at three.

Scheblein finished the contest with 18 total saves.

Scheblein's third save of the contest was her 300th career save.
