Lakers' Explosive Second Half Pushes Them Past Pioneers

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Field Hockey team defeated the Utica Pioneers this afternoon by a score of 4 to 1. This was the Lakers' sixth victory of the campaign.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 4, Utica University 1

Location: Laker Turf Stadium, Oswego, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Oswego State Field Hockey team earned their sixth win of the season against the Pioneers this evening.

  • The Lakers dominated the first 5 minutes, keeping the ball in their offensive zone.

  • The Lakers landed their first goal of the night 14:37 into the first quarter, coming from Kacie Sizmer assisting was Nancy Pagliaroli

  • Oswego had three shots on goal in the first quarter, with Utica University also having three shots on goal; the score remained 1-0 after one. 

  • The Lakers put the pressure on in the second quarter with multiple penalty corners in a row. 

  • From 16:16-16:48, the Lakers had four shots on goal 

  • At 18:15 of the contest, the Pioneers landed their first goal, tying the game at one. 

  • The Lakers were able to bounce back offensively, landing 2 shots on goal and three penalty corners between 25:29 and 28:38; one attempt by Nancy Pagliaroli missing just right of the Pioneer net.

  • Oswego finished the first half with 9 shots, with Utica landing only four. 

  • The Lakers came out swinging in the third quarter, landing their second goal of the night at 31:36, this goal coming from Kaitlyn Jordan.

  • The defense of the Lakers was the tale of the second half, allowing no shots on goal the entire half.

  • Utica received a green card at 35:14, and the Lakers were unable to capitalize on the advantage, getting their own green card at 37:08.

  • Immediately following, Utica received a yellow card at 37:53.

  • Kaitlyn Jordan struck again for the Lakers, landing her second goal of the evening at 43:11

  • Kacie Simzer netted another goal for the Lakers with only 9 seconds left in the third.

  • The fourth quarter started off slowly, with only one shot  attempted in the first seven minutes; coming from Utica.

  • The end of the match saw many cards thrown, with Oswego receiving two yellow's in the final 5 minutes, and Utica receiving one.

  • The Lakers finished with ten shots on goal, with 4 hitting the back of the net. 

  • Scheblein finished the contest with two total saves, and one goal allowed.

Oswego will look to defend their home turf with a SUNYAC matchup against the Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday, October 1st at 4:00PM.
