GENEVA, N.Y. – The Oswego State Women's Hockey team traveled to Geneva this afternoon for a non-conference matchup against the William Smith Herons. The Lakers had four different players reach the back of the net this evening with Simone Bednarik leading the charge, scoring two goals on the evening in a statement victory over the Herons.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Herons were the first to score this evening, netting their first goal of the evening only a minute into the contest.

Oswego would tie the match at one with a goal scored 11 and a half minutes into the first period. Scoring for the Lakers was Sophia Kyrkostas, who was unassisted. Kyrkostas has now scored in back-to-back games for Oswego, giving her two goals on the season.

William Smith would bounce back, and secure the lead going into the second period with a goal scored with just over two minutes remaining in the period. This would be the last goal for the Herons as Goalie Lexi Levy pitched a shutout in the net for the final two periods.

Levy recorded four saves in the first period of play.

It wasn't until halfway through the second period when the Lakers would tie the Herons at two. Simone Bednarik would score on the power-play 11 and a half minutes into the period, receiving the assist from Amanda Zenstein and Avery Webster.

Bednarik would score another goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the period, giving the Lakers a 3-2 lead over the Herons. Bednarik would score at even strength and be unassisted.

The Lakers would lead 3-2 going into the final period of play. Levy would record six more saves in the period, bringing her total to 10 through two periods.

Mack Hull would give the Lakers a two-goal lead with a power-play goal coming in the third period of play. Hull was assisted by Ashlyn McGrath and Amanda Zenstein.

Mia Conboy would score the final goal for Oswego with just under two minutes remaining in the contest. Conboy was assisted by Sophia Kyrkostas and Rylee Preston.

Lexi Levy recorded 12 saves in the final period of play, giving her 22 on the afternoon.

The Lakers will travel to Canton on Friday, February 3rd for a conference matchup against the Roos. The puck drop is scheduled for 7pm.
