Volleyball Takes Down Oneonta in Five Sets

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Volleyball team held off Oneonta on Saturday in a close five-set match during Senior Day.  Prior to the match, the Lakers honored seniors Grace Taylor, Georgia Farry, Kaylee Troy, Caitie Lilly, Kylie Lynch, and Olivia Bunn.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oneonta stormed out of the gates with a 14-5 edge in kills in taking the first set.
  • The second set was close at 10-10 before graduate student Sydney Chiffriller made a four-point service run to put Oswego in charge.
  • Five kills from junior Cara Simplicio in the set would help the Lakers even the match at 1-1.
  • In the third set, the teams traded points until 15-15 when six combined kills from senior Farry and freshman Grace Gdovin would put it away.
  • The Red Dragons would tighten up the offense with nine kills and only one error to force the deciding-set.
  • Down 6-3, a smart two-handed push to the deep corner by junior Emily Zeisler would swing momentum.
  • Zeisler would add three aces and an assist to Taylor to put Oswego up 8-6 as the teams switched sides.
  • Oneonta would retake the lead at 9-8 before Oswego finished them off with seven of the last eight points.
  • Simplicio led the way with 15 kills for the Lakers with Farry adding 9 and Gdovin 7.
  • Zeisler had a double-double with 16 assists and 17 digs while Troy had a match-high 19 digs.
  • Freshman CJ Eidem notched six aces to help Oswego with the serving battle by a 19-6 advantage in aces.

WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego State Volleyball will head west for a matchup with Buffalo State on Friday at 6 p.m. and then Fredonia at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
