Women's Ice Hockey Goes Into Playoffs With Confidence

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Women's Hockey team hosted the Buffalo State Bengals this afternoon for their Senior Day game. The Lakers honored eight Seniors this afternoon in their season finale as they dominated the Bengals. Best of luck in your future endeavors to those graduating seniors!

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 9 (14-10-1, 11-6-1 NEWHL), Buffalo State 1 (7-15-0, 1-14-0 NEWHL)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Mack Hull scored the first goal for the Lakers this afternoon just a minute into the contest. Hull was unassisted on her goal. 

  • Just four minutes later, Lizzie Burke scored the second goal for Oswego. Burke was assisted by Ariella Haas and Rylee Preston

  • Almost 13 minutes into the period, Rylee Preston would score the third goal for the Lakers, giving them a 3-0 lead over the Bengals. 

  • Lexi Levy pitched a shutout in the first, recording ten saves for Oswego. The Lakers led by three going into the second period. 

  • Ariella Haas scored the fourth goal for the Lakers with just over seven minutes left in the second period. Haas was unassisted on her goal.

  • Just a minute later, Morgan Shines would score the fifth goal for the Lakers, receiving the assist from Taylor Hudon.

  • Shines would score her second goal of the game at the 17:16 mark. Shines gave the Lakers a 6-0 lead going into the third period. Levy recorded seven more saves in the second, bringing her total to 17 through two periods.

  • Oswego started the third period pulling Levy from net and swapping her out for Rachel Brase

  • The Bengals would score their first goal of the evening three minutes into the final period, making the score 6-1.

  • Morgan Shines secured the hat trick with her third goal coming in with nine minutes remaining in the game. Shines was assisted by Kyleigh Grugin and Avery Webster. The Lakers would lead 7-1.

  • Oswego kept the foot on the pedal, scoring their eighth goal of the evening with just under five minutes remaining. Ashlyn McGrath scored her first goal of the game, getting the assist from Ariella Haas and Rheya Zemlak

  • Ariella Haas scored the ninth goal for the Lakers with two minutes remaining in the contest, Haas extended the lead to eight for the Lakers. Haas was assisted by Amanda Zenstein

  • The Lakers had 50 shots on goal this afternoon in their offensive onslaught over the Bengals. 

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers have punched their ticket to the NEWHL Playoffs. The Lakers will travel to Cortland to take on the #2 seeded Red Dragons in the NEWHL Semifinals. The game will take place on February 25th at 3PM. More information on how to get tickets will be available in the coming days.
