Lakers Take Down Golden Eagles in Narrow Victory

BROCKPORT, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Lacrosse team defeated the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles on Saturday, holding off their SUNYAC rival for their first conference win of the season.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego State 9 (3-2, 1-0 SUNYAC), Brockport 8 (2-6, 0-1) 

Location: A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field, Brockport, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oswego scored first off of a goal from Max Brodman with 10:45 remaining. He was assisted by Corey O'Connor. Brockport evened up the score at one, but O'Connor answered with a man advantage goal that was assisted by Trey Jones with 6:18 remaining in the first quarter.

  • Brockport took control of the game late in the first quarter and early in the second, going up 5-2 with 11:43 to go in the second quarter.

  • Oswego roared back, scoring three unanswered goals to tie it up before halftime. Brodman scored again off an assist from Connor Aspinal, followed by an unassisted goal from Aspinal, and ending with another goal from Brodman off an assist from O'Connor.

  • The second half started with a Brockport goal with 12:59 remaining.

  • Down 6-5, Gavin Elston scored two minutes later to tie it up.

  • The scoring ceased for most of the third quarter after the early flurry, then Elston scored again with 2:25 left.

  • Oswego entered the fourth quarter up 7-6. Brockport tied the game early in the fourth, but Elston answered with his third straight goal with 6:34 remaining, this time off an assist from O'Connor.

  • Elston assisted on a goal from Liam Sexton to go up 9-7 with four minutes left.

  • Brockport narrowed the deficit to one with under two minutes remaining, but they weren't able to tie the game before the end. Oswego hung on to take the 9-8 win.

The men will continue their SUNYAC schedule when they play Plattsburgh State in Oswego on Saturday, April 1.
