Lakers Move To The Sweet 16 With Win Over #10 John Carroll

OSWEGO, N.Y.  –  The Oswego State Men's Basketball team punched their ticket to the Sweet 16 after a tightly contested match against John Carroll University. The Lakers defense was the story of the game, as they held John Carroll to 37.5% from the field. Devin Green led the way for the Lakers, recording a double-double on the afternoon. Green scored 21 points, going  8 for11 from the field, and 4 for 6 from beyond the arc, with 11 rebounds.

Final Score: #6 Oswego State 66 (27-2, 19-1 SUNYAC), #10 JCU 61 (23-5, 16-2 OAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • John Carroll University built an early ten point lead over the Lakers before they began to find their groove. Oswego would come back and take a 33-30 lead going into the half. 

  • The Lakers defense swarmed in the first half of the game, holding JCU to just ten percent of their three point attempts, while going 37.9% from the field. Oswego forced seven first half turnovers by JCU. 

  • Oswego's defense continued to heckle JCU through the second half of play while the Lakers began to get hot on offense. The Lakers converted on 58.3% of their second half field goal attempts, while going 50% from three point range. 

  • Oswego built their largest lead of the evening, going up 17 just five minutes into the half. 

  • JCU would bring the game to just five with two minutes remaining. 

  • Cartier Bowman converted on a heavily contested layup with just a minute and a half remaining in the game to give the Lakers a seven point lead.  

  • With ten seconds remaining, Bowman secured the game-winning rebound and was fouled on while securing the rebound. Bowman missed his free throw and was able to secure his own rebound for the Lakers. 

  • Oswego held on to take the 66-61 victory over JCU. Devin Green had 21 points, Ahkee Anderson had 17, Jeremiah Sparks had 16, and Cartier Bowman had ten.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Lakers advance to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. The men will be traveling to Ashland, Va. to take on the #1 ranked Yellowjackets of Randolph-Macon.
