OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State Softball team returned home this afternoon for a double header matchup against Cazenovia College. The Lakers won both games today against the Wildcats. Game one was a thriller, with the Lakers walking it off in the bottom of the tenth inning. Oswego took game two by six. Pitching was the story this afternoon, with Fiona Higgins and Maria Lutz combining for 32 strikeouts on the mound, allowing no runs on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

Fiona Higgins was unstoppable on the mound, recording nine strikeouts in the first three innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Oswego was in position to score with a runner on third, but were unable to capitalize.

Cazenovia showed life in the top of the seventh, recording two hits on Higgins, but were unable to score.

The score remained at zero until the bottom of the tenth inning.

Ariana Guinassi started off the inning on second base, but advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt by Madison Hoeflich.

Krista Souders drove in the game winning run with a single to the pitcher, bringing in Guinassi.

Oswego defeated the Wildcats 1-0 in extra innings.

Fiona Higgins had a game, throwing 18 strikeouts in game one, getting the victory.
Game 2

Oswego jumped out to an early one run lead in the bottom of the first inning, off a double by Fiona Higgins. Madison Hoeflich scored off the double by Higgins.

A single by Ariana Guinassi would set the Lakers up to score again in the bottom of the third. Higgins singled through the right side, allowing Guinassi to score and give Oswego a two run lead.

Back-to-back singles by Ellie Mahoney and Tai Smith set the Lakers up in the bottom of the fourth to add to their lead.

Mahoney scored and gave Oswego a three run lead off an error by the Wildcats second baseman.

In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on first and second, Samantha Morgan singled down the infield line to extend the Lakers lead to four.

Following Morgan's hit, the Lakers still had two runners on base. Mahoney then smacked a single to right center field, which brought in the two runners on base and the Lakers had a six run lead.

There would be no more for the Wildcats, as Maria Lutz finished them off with two strikeouts in the top of the sixth inning. Lutz finished the game with 14 strikeouts on the mound.

Oswego took game two by a score of 6-0, shutting out the WIldcats in both games.

Higgins accounted for three of the runs by Oswego, going two for two at bat, with one run scored and two RBI's.

Oswego State will have another double header on Friday, April 14th against Oneonta at home. The games are set for 3pm and 5pm.
