HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
-
The game, for the first seven innings, was a pitcher's duel. Fiona Higgins gave up three hits over the first seven innings, and the New Paltz pitcher, Roman, also gave up three hits. Neither team could string together enough players on base to couple with their hitting chances.
-
In the top of the eighth, New Paltz had a two out double with a runner on first to take the lead, 1-0.
-
Oswego was able to get a hit in the bottom of the eighth, but could not add any additional hits to tie the game.
-
Despite taking the loss, Higgins pitched very well, giving up only five hits and racking up nine strikeouts to go with zero walks.
Game 2
-
Game two was less close than the first game. New Paltz was able to score four runs in the first.
-
Oswego had two hits in the first inning, but could not push across a run.
-
From the first inning on, the Lakers could not get a hit.
-
New Paltz scored two more runs in the fifth, and three runs in the sixth to ensue the mercy rule of an eight run difference after five innings.
