Softball Taken Down In Two Straight To Golden Knights

OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State Softball team fell to the Clarkson University Golden Knights in both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Lakers played their best in the first game.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Game One Oswego 5, Clarkson 7 (7 Inn.)  Game Two Oswego 1, Clarkson 10 (5 Inn.)

Location:  Laker Softball Field, Oswego, NY

Records:  Oswego State 7-19-1, Clarkson 14-10

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

  • The Golden Knights struck first in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead.

  • After Clarkson took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, the Lakers made their move, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning. Oswego loaded the bases, and Samantha Morgan was hit by a pitch. This forced in a run. 

  • The next two runs scored in the bottom of the third came in the next at bat, when Ellie Mahoney reached on an error by the Clarkson pitcher, an off line throw pulling the first baseman off of the bag. The error resulted in two runs, with Fiona Higgins and Madison Hoeflich scoring.

  • The Golden Knights tied the game in the top of the fourth.

  • Fiona Higgins helped the Lakers take the lead in the bottom of the inning, knocking in Hoeflich and Kylie Detz with an RBI single.

  • Clarkson scored three runs in the top of the sixth, and scored an additional run in the top of the seventh to take a 7-5 victory.

Game 2

  • Clarkson took a 2-0 lead into the fourth inning, when they broke it open with seven runs in the top of the inning.

  • The Lakers answered with a run scored off a Christina Kania RBI double that scored Higgins.

  • However, Clarkson added a run in the top of the fifth, and the Lakers were unable to respond in the bottom of the inning. The game ended after the fifth inning. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Oswego State will go on the road to take on their Western State SUNYAC foes of Geneseo and Brockport on Friday (Geneseo) and Saturday (Brockport).
