BROCKPORT, NY – The Oswego State Softball team defeated the Brockport Golden Eagles in the first game of their double header on Saturday, but fell late in their second game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning off a shortstop throwing error that resulted in Christina Kania reaching second base and Mattison Phinney scoring.

Samantha Morgan, continuing her hot streak, hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth. Adriana Marini scored on Morgan's third blast of the season.

The Lakers increased their lead to 4-0 in the top of the fifth off another Golden Eagle throwing error, which resulted in Ariana Guinassi scoring.

Guinassi scored again in the top of the seventh off a Madison Hoeflich RBI single. On the throw, Hoeflich moved to second base. On the very next batter, Krista Sounders drove in Hoeflich on her own RBI single.

In the pitching department, Fiona Higgins pitched a complete game shutout, surrendering only four hits and racking up 11 strikeouts after throwing 121 pitches.
Game 2

Hoeflich walked in the top of the first, and with two outs, Morgan drove her in with an RBI single.

In the top of the third, Hoeflich reached on another shortstop error. She advanced to second on a Sounders groundout to first, and scored on a first base error that Fiona Higgins hit into. Morgan added another single, and both runners advanced on an error from the left fielder. Despite having two runners in scoring position, the Lakers would only leave the top of the third inning with a 2-0 lead.

Kylie Detz scored on a passed ball in the top of the fourth, but Brockport answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own, making it 3-2 Lakers.

Brockport took a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, and added one more run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Lakers could not get any offense in the top of the seventh, and Brockport took home the victory in game two.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego State will host the Buffalo State Bengals on Friday, April 28. They will play two games, slated to start at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
