OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State Softball team fell to the Buffalo State Bengals in both games of a double header on Senior Day. The Lakers honored outgoing Seniors Jessica Thayer, Madison Hoeflich, Tai Smith, Fiona Higgins, Chelsea Sellars, Samantha Morgan, and Adriana Marini.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1

The Lakers scored their only two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Samantha Morgan, in her final regular season home game, reached on an error from the center fielder. This allowed fellow Senior, Madison Hoeflich, to score.

Ellie Mahoney doubled into the left field gap, driving in Morgan.

Buffalo State took the lead in the top of the third, scoring three runs. The Lakers attempted to answer back in the bottom of the inning, but left two runners stranded.

The same happened in the bottom of the fourth, with the Lakers leaving two runners on base.

Buffalo State added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning, and led 5-2 after the frame.

Oswego left two runners on base in the bottom of the sixth.

Buffalo State dealt a blow in the top of the seventh, scoring five more runs, and put the game out of reach.

The Lakers' top performer was Ellie Mahoney, who had two hits and a walk in the game.
Game 2

The second game was not as close as the first. The Bengals jumped on Oswego early, scoring four runs in the top of the second, and added three more in the top of the third.

Oswego's first run came in the bottom of the third, off a slick double-steal that scored Ariana Guinassi, and resulted in Hoeflich sliding into second..

Hoeflich had an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth that scored Tai Smith.

The Bengals put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth, going up 14-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mahoney flew out to right field, and scored Mattison Phinney.

The Lakers could not add any more runs beyond that, and the game ended after the five innings.

Oswego State will travel to Cortland to take on the Red Dragons in their final SUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday, May 6.
