OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Volleyball team lost two straight today in their home tournament to Whaton (Mass.) by a score of 3-1 and were swept in three straight sets against the Utica University Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Wheaton was up 5-2 in the first set. The Lakers then scored five straight points to take the 7-5 lead.

Wheaton then took a 5-point lead of their own to take the 10-7 lead.

Points went back and forth until the Lakers went on to score four points in a row, going up 17-13.

The Lyons erased that four-point lead with five points of their own, taking the 18-17 lead. Sydney Chiffriller tied the set with a kill to take the momentum back.

The set was tied up six times in the last 14 points of the set.

Wheaton's offense fell apart at the end of the set, with a service error and two attack errors to give the Lakers set one by a score 27-25.

In set two the Lakers took a quick three point lead with kills from Cara Simplicio and Georgia Farry.

Wheaton took their first lead of the set with a three point run, bringing the set to 7-6.

After the Lakers tied the contest at eight, Oswego took advantage of offensive miscues form Wheaton, going on a three-point run to go up 10-8.

The Lyons then went on to score seven of the next eight points, going up 14-10.

Later in the set, the Lakers found themselves down 23-17 before they scored six of the next seven points to keep the set at 24-23.

Wheaton took the set on the next point, 25-23.

After scoring the first two points of set three, Wheaton scored seven straight points.

Later on in the set, Wheaton went on a 7-1 run, going up 20-8.

The Green and Gold scored three straight to get to 11 points before Wheaton closed out the set with a 5-0 run.

Wheaton started where they left off in the third set, scoring seven of the first nine points in the set.

Wheaton held a 10-7 lead before Wheaton went on a 5-1 run, leading 15-8.

Oswego fought back with a 6-1 run of their own, bringing the set to 16-14 in favor of the Lyons.

Wheaton then scored nine of the last ten points to take the contest 3-1.

Simplicio led the Lakers with 8.0 points in the contest while Olivia Bunn and Chiffriller led in kills, both with seven.
Game 2

After scoring the first point of set one, Utica took back the lead and didn't look back.

With the score sitting at 9-7, Utica scored five of the next six points.

Oswego couldn't find a rhythm, scoring multiple back to back points, they were not able to string together a run.

Utica scored eight of the final nine points, taking the first set 25-15.

The Lakers were up 3-1 in the second set after a kill by Taylor Grace and a service ace by Simplicio.

Utica scored four straight going up 5-3.

The home squad then took the lead back 6-5 after a kill by Madison Gordon.

The Lakers were up 20-17 before the Pioneers got back into their rhythm, scoring eight of the next ten point, taking the set away from the Lakers 25-22.

Oswego wasn't going out with a fight, going up in set three, 7-1.

With three point runs on both sides, the Lakers found themselves up 10-7.

Utica scored seven of the next eight points putting them up 14-12.

Taylor and Kaylee Troy started a five point run, finishing with a kill by Olivia Bunn, going up 17-14.

Oswego kept the lead going up 21-19 before the Pioneers took the final set, closing it out scoring seven of the next nine points.

Sydney Chiffriller led the Lakers in the game vs. Utica with six kills.

Grace Taylor led the Lakers in points with 8.5.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will have a string of tournaments coming up, starting with the North Country Classic on September 8th against St. Lawrence University at 4:30PM.
