HOW IT HAPPENED
From the opening puck drop the Lakers got to work. Senior Rocco Andreachhi wasted no time, scoring the first goal of the contest just over a minute into play. As the period got underway Oswego settled in on offense, testing Morrisville net minder Garrett Boyonoski with a range of shots and passing plays. It did not take long for the Lakers to once again find the back of the net, as Thomas Rocco finished on a one-timer opportunity created by linemates Connor Sleeth and Matt McQuade at the 10:40 mark of the first period. Despite executing on defense, Morrisville forward Ethan Henry was able to capitalize on a scramble in front of the Lakers net, putting the Mustangs on the board at 14:51. Before the end of the period, both teams took a turn in the penalty box, but neither would breakthrough, leaving the scoreline remaining at 2-1 in Oswego's favor.
The Lakers opened the second period on a power play but struggled to maintain possession in Morrisville's zone. An offensive push from the Mustangs led Oswego to be on a penalty kill of their own and stuck in their defensive zone for a few minutes following the successful kill. The Lakers rebounded and continued to batter Boyonoski with a variety of shots, but none would find their way across the goal line. The second period would close out with the score still standing at 2-1.
As the final frame of play initiated, Oswego did not let up. Sophomore Connor Gatto added to the tally just under two minutes in, extending the Lakers' lead to 3-1. Oswego continued to bear down on face-offs and in front of the Mustangs' net. Freshman Brock Krulicki pulled one off the pads of Boyonoski to add a goal of his own to the scoreboard at the 12:57 mark of the third. The very physical play of the game would persist throughout the remainder of the period. Oswego goalie, Cal Schell stood tall in net this evening with 17 saves and the Lakers would add a dominant 4-1 win over Morrisville to their five-game winning streak.
