CORTLAND, NY- The SUNY Oswego women's basketball (10-7, 6-5 SUNYAC) team traveled to Cortland, NY Saturday for a highly anticipated match-up with the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons (13-5, 9-2 SUNYAC). The Lakers sit in third place in the SUNYAC just behind the Red Dragons. At the half, Oswego trailed 26-28 and ultimately fell to Cortland on the road, 72-64.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In a tightly played first quarter, the Lakers were able to grab a small lead before the final seconds thanks to lay-ups from Gianna White-Principio and
Julia Logana. To start the second the Red Dragons went on a run and grabbed a lead of their own until
Karleigh Leo drained a three-pointer tying the game at 24 all.
Zhane Holmes would follow that up with a jumper before half time.
In the second half,
Shania Iglesias pushed the Lakers offense with five quick points to start the half.
Macey DeOrdio joined in on the scoring with a three pointer of her own cutting into the Red Dragon lead. Heading into the fourth quarter the Lakers were trailing the Red Dragons by four. Each team had its highest scoring quarter of the afternoon in the fourth with both teams scoring twenty plus points. Baskets from
Julia Logana and
Logan Nyemchek gave the Lakers a small lead to start the fourth. The Oswego defense tried to slow down the Red Dragons but the Cortland offense came roaring back late in the fourth and the Lakers were not able to answer, falling to the Red Dragons in Cortland.
