OSWEGO, NY - The SUNY Oswego women's soccer team hosted SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday afternoon for a conference tilt. After a scoreless first half, the Lakers broke through in the second half to secure a 1-0 home win.
THE BASICS
Final score:
Oswego 1 (8-5, 4-2 SUNYAC)
Potsdam 0 (3-11, 1-5 SUNYAC)
Location: Laker Turf Field, SUNY Oswego
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite the frigid 45-degree and windy day, the Lakers started this game producing shots on goal almost immediately. The offense tested Potsdam's goalkeeper early and often. Oswego's consistent pressure led the Bears to play much of the game on their heels, as the Lakers blitzed Potsdam in the form of corner kicks and shots. Despite outshooting the Bears 7-1 in the first half, the game remained at a 0-0 standstill going into the halftime intermission.
In the second half, Oswego continued to outshoot the Bears, and in the 71
st minute, senior
Jackie Marquardt was able to sneak in a header off a corner from
Emma Rechtorovic. Less than a minute after Marquardt broke the deadlock, Potsdam was able to create a scoring opportunity in the box, as a well-placed header was saved by
Perri Anderson. A couple of other late saves from
Perri Anderson helped the Lakers shut out the Wolves and earn a conference victory at home.
WHAT'S NEXT
Oswego women's soccer will travel up north to Plattsburgh, NY, to take on the Cardinals on Saturday, October 19th, at 1:00 PM.
