HOW IT HAPPENED
The two teams battled each other as well as the elements in the first half. Driving winds and rain made it difficult for either team to find their footing. Each team mustered three shots, and one corner kick in the first 45 minutes of play. The score was 0-0 at the half.
Ten minutes into the second half, the Red Dragons broke the tie on a corner kick that led to a header making it 1-0. Ten minutes later, a Cortland breakaway snuck one by the Oswego goalie,
Kyle Rose to increase the lead to 2-0. In the 76
th minute, a hard shot from the top of the box was fired into the back of the net and Cortland built a 3-0 lead in just 20 minutes. The Lakers got on the board in the 78
th minute after a foul in the box led to a penalty kick goal for
Chris Smith. Oswego ultimately fell 3-1 to #25 ranked Cortland.
