MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Oswego Women's hockey took to the road this afternoon, traveling to SUNY Morrisville for their first of two conference matchups this weekend. In search of adding 2 more points to their SUNYAC tally, the Lakers came out ready to work. A stalemate of a first period would leave both programs wanting more, which Oswego would find in the second period, extending their lead to 5-1 over the Mustangs. A last-ditch offensive effort by senior Ashlyn McGrath and Kate Mabey would improve the scoreline to 6-2 in the Lakers' favor.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
A strong opening face off win by first year Meaghan Smith would give the Lakers some jump right from the start. Oswego had too much jump, getting a too-many-men penalty at 1:49 into the first period. An unsuccessful power play by the Mustangs would give the Lakers a turn on offense and on a power play of their own. A connected passing play would set senior Mackenzie Hull up on the back door where she would put the puck top shelf at the 4:55 mark. Oswego kept the heat on as play returned to full strength battering Morrisville's starting goaltender, Elizabeth Timby, with shots. A few minutes later, a shot from the outside the dots by Allicen Bouchard would catch Lexi Levy off guard, tying the game up 1-1 at 9:39. In the remaining minutes of the period, play would turn into a back-and-forth battle, but the score would remain at a stalemate.
Another starting face off win, this time by sophomore Erika Parenti, would generate a solid shooting opportunities for line mates Ashlyn McGrath and Elizabeth Cooley right off the bat. A low shot by Cooley, forced a prime rebound off Timby's left pad, which Parenti would bury at 5:39. The following minutes would continue to be dominated by the Lakers, as they maintained possession and put an array of shots on net. A second goal netted by Hull, would extend Oswego's lead to 3-1 at the 8:44 mark of the second period. A few solid line rushes by Morrisville would create uncertainty but would be shutout by Levy and the Laker defense. A 3rd tally notched by Mackenzie Hull at 13:20 would complete her second career hat trick and a first career goal for Meaghan Smith would close out scoring for the period at 17:13.
Despite creating a comfortable 5-1 lead, Oswego did not let up heading into the third period. A scoreless 17 minutes would be terminated by a nifty move and goal by senior Ashlyn McGrath, but that wouldn't be all, as the Mustangs would add one more to the scoreboard before the buzzer. The Lakers would pull away from their first competition of the weekend with a 6-2 win and 2 more SUNYAC points.
