HOW IT HAPPENED

This matchup was competitive right from the opening serve. The Bengals and the Lakers had both already secured their spot in the SUNYAC Playoffs but both teams wanted to leave their mark before the end of the season.

In the first set, the two teams played themselves to a 19-19 tie. Priscilla McReynolds was set up for a kill by Mya Bush followed by kills from Cara Simplicio and Kalley Vugteveen giving the Lakers a 24-20 lead. Buffalo State tried to battle back but Simplicio put them away with a final kill, 25-23.

In the second, Buffalo State picked up their energy and shut down the Lakers whenever they tried to make a run. As the set came to a close, the Bengals rattled off six straight points for a 25-18 set win.

In the third set, with the two teams knotted at one set a piece, Oswego clung to a small lead late in the set. After the Bengals committed a service error, they tied the game up at 23 before Emily Zeisler sent home a kill delivered from Mya Bush. Cara Simplicio went back to serve up an ace and the Bengals committed an attack error to give the Lakers the third set win, 25-23.

The fourth set started with a huge run for the Lakers that gave them a 9-0 lead over the Bengals forcing a time out. Despite the best effort of the Lakers, Buffalo State came all the way back to tie this set at 18-18. With the set winding down, the Lakers mustered a kill from Mya Bush but the momentum from the Bengals was too much and we were on to the fifth deciding set.

After a close start to the 5th set, the Bengals built a 7-3 lead that forced a timeout from Oswego. Cara Simplicio and Priscilla McReynolds both contributed kills in the set but no matter what the Lakers threw at the Bengals, they were ready. Buffalo State ultimately took down the Lakers, 15-10.
