HOW IT HAPPENED
From the first faceoff, the Blue Devils put pressure on the Lakers defense. At the 11-minute mark of the first, the Blue Devils found themselves on a breakaway and an errant pass bounced off a Fredonia player and behind Milberg to give the Blue Devils an early 1-0 lead. Similarly, with 4 minutes left in the first,
Brett Fudger fired a shot at the Blue Devil keeper who knocked it away into his own defender and back into their own goal helping the Lakers tie this game up at 1 goal a piece heading into the first break.
The second period saw the momentum swing both ways until the Blue Devils were issued a tripping penalty that the Lakers took advantage of. In the final minute of the powerplay, the Lakers
Justin Ryan went headfirst into the Fredonia zone and scored a wrap around goal, his first of the season, giving the Lakers a 2-1 lead. That lead was held for Oswego for the remainder of the period.
In the third, the Lakers were able to find two more goals. First,
Matt McQuade buried a breakaway goal over the shoulder of the Blue Devils goalie. That was followed by
Andrew Harley scoring in similar fashion over the pad of the goalie for his first goal of the season. Oswego earned a big home win over Fredonia, 4-1.
Tonight was also the Teddy Bear Toss for Oswego. When the Lakers scored their first goal, fans threw their stuffed animals onto the ice in celebration. Toys for tots collected 265 bears from the Ice and raise over $1000 in the evening.
