HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers lost the opening tip but came up with a defensive stop and took the first lead of the game off a post up from freshman
Deacon Judd. Next,
Cole Kattan hit a three in transition and just like that the Lakers were up 5-0.
Ahkee Anderson and
Xavier Allen hit back to back-to-back mid-range jumpers to keep the Oswego offense going. Duane Davis, however, for Muskingum would not let them pull away too far by continuously driving successfully to the basket. He scored 7 of his team's first 9 points. The Muskies picked up the pressure defensively on the Lakers forcing bad shots and a few turnovers. The Lakers, however, forced 5 turnovers of their own to help them maintain a slim lead. The Muskies took their first lead of the game midway through the half, but Anderson found Rosbrook in the post to take the lead right back.
Arthur Foster came off the bench and blocked two shots on defense and knocked down a three giving the Lakers a small spark. After a short scoring slump, Anderson knocked down another mid-range jumper making the score 29-25. Two technical follows were issued to the Muskies in the first half as the officiating began to make an impact on the game. A small run for Oswego gave them a 40-34 lead at the half.
The Muskies opened the second half on a 5-0 run, but
Xavier Allen dropped a jumper to stop the run. That was followed by
Ahkee Anderson who nudged the Lakers back in front with a jumper. After a timeout from the Lakers, freshman
Gary McLane hit an and-1 layup after a defensive stop. Next it was
Steven Bradley knocking down an and-1 and the Lakers opened an 8-point advantage over the Muskies. Oswego went on another 6-0 run to take a 60-50 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the half forcing a Muskingum time out. No matter what the Muskies threw at the Lakers in the second half, they were ready. Once the lead grew to ten points the Lakers kept it there for the rest of the game. In a late desperate move, the Muskies went to zone defense, but
Steven Bradley immediately knocked down a three. The Lakers high scorer or the game was
Ahkee Anderson with 17 points. and 5 assists.
Ahkee Anderson was named tournament MVP and
Steven Bradley was named to the all tournament team!
The Lakers were officially crowned the Chuck Resler Tournament Champions.
