Lakers Suffer Overtime Loss to Plattsburgh in SUNYAC Semi Finals

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Today in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena, a match-up between the two rivals SUNY Oswego and SUNY Plattsburgh go head to head in the SUNYAC Semi-Finals. This game determined which of the two teams makes it into the SUNYAC Finals next weekend.

The Basics :

Oswego: 2 (16-9-1, 12-5-0)

Plattsburgh: 3 (21-4-2, 13-3-1) 

Location: Deborah F. Stanley Arena, Oswego, N.Y. 

How It Happened : 

     From the first second of the game, the Lakers wasted no time with Tyler Flack ripping a shot in the opening seconds. Five and a half minutes into the game, Plattsburgh's Jake Lanyi tested Cal Schell in the net for Oswego but he turned him away.. The first goal of the game was scored with 11 minutes on the clock When Tristan Francis found Tyler Flack.. Shot after shot from Plattsburgh was turned away by Oswego goalie Cal Schell. Twelve shots were taken by Oswego and seven by Plattsburgh. The Lakers ended the first period with a 1-0 lead. 

           Just a couple of minutes into the second period Plattsburgh's Jack Ring snuck one past Schell to tie the game at one. The two teams exchanged penalty kills for the remainder of the period but we ended the second at one goal a piece.

            In the third,with six minutes left, Plattsburgh's Ryan Hogg gave the Cardinals a one goal lead with time dwindling down. The Lakers gained a power play advantage in the final three minutes of play and who else but Shane Bull tied the game up at two apiece with an assist from Tristan Francis and Rocco Andreacchi. Neither team was able to break the tie before the end of regulation so we entered overtime.

           In overtime, Plattsburgh broke the tie only three minutes into action when a slap shot snuck by Schell to give the Cardinals a big road win, 3-2.

What's Next : 

The Lakers finish this season with a overall record of 16-9-1 and a conference record of 12-5.
