OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State Softball team took on the Stevenson University Mustangs. Solid efforts by both teams in the fourth and fifth innings made for a great back-and-forth game. A nail-biting final inning witnessed Stevenson get the winning run to end the game 7-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chelsea Sellars started on the mound for the Lakers. Stevenson was able to begin the game with a leg up on Oswego. With Mustang runners on second and third, the batter hit a fly ball to center field, allowing their runner on third to score.
The green and gold found their spark in the top of the fourth. The Lakers had runners on first and second,
Lily Fanea hit a single to bring in the tying run. With two outs,
Mackenzie Carlson reached first on an infield error, bringing in run number two for Oswego.
Lillian Haggerty then hit a single up the middle, to bring in another run, which made the score 3-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, a Mustangs batter hit a triple, and later made it home from a sacrifice fly.
Kira Wright hit a triple to left field to start off the fifth with bang. She later scored on a passed ball which bumped the Lakers up 4-2.
The Mustangs had a runner at first with no outs, who was then brought in by a triple to narrow the score. Another Stevenson batter reached first on an error that brought in the tying run plus one. The runner on first advanced to second, stole third, and later scored from a sacrifice fly.
In the top of the sixth,
Ariana Guinassi hit a single, followed by a double from Carlson who advanced to third. Quick throws by Stevenson got Guinassi out at home. Haggerty hit a single to bring in Carlson to make the score 6-5. Oswego made three quick outs, with determination to overtake the Mustangs in their last chance at bat.
With two outs,
Ellie Mahoney hit a double to left center. Fanea hit a single that brought in the tying run. With the score at 6-6, two outs down, the Mustangs had the winning run on first. The next Stevenson batter hit a triple to push the winning run in and end the game 7-6.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will face off against the University of Scranton and the University of Maine at Presque Isle on March 15. Game times are at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
