Men's Lacrosse Takes On Skidmore on The Road

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Oswego State Men's Lacrosse traveled to Saratoga Springs today to take on the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds. Despite a valiant effort, the Lakers were defeated 19-9

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 9 (0-2, 0-0 SUNYAC)

Skidmore 19 (5-0, 0-0 Liberty League)

Location: Wachenheim Field | Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers wasted no time getting on the board, as Garrett Elston and Liam Sexton scored two goals in 30 seconds, giving the Lakers an early 2-0 lead with 10 to play in the first. It didn't take long for Skidmore to strike back though, as the Thoroughbreds answered with 5 goals of their own. The Lakers brought the score to a two-point deficit, as Hayden Coney scored a goal with 19 seconds to go, making the score 5-3 at the end of the first.

It seemed Oswego had no answer for the fast paced offense that Skidmore was running, as the Thoroughbreds scored 5 unanswered goals in the second quarter. However, it wasn't all bad for the Lakers, as Garrett Elston scored his second goal of the game, followed closely by a goal from Corey O'Connor. One more breakaway goal for Skidmore made it 11-5 in their favor going into the halftime break.

Not much changed for Oswego in the second half, as Liam Sexton and Hayden Coney found the back of the net once each in the third quarter. Despite these goals, the Thoroughbreds outscored the Lakers 5 goals to 2, extending their lead to 16-7, as time expired in the third.

The Thoroughbreds struck first in the fourth quarter, but the Lakers answered right back as Liam Sexton scored his third goal of the afternoon. Two more goals for Skidmore would close out the game, but not without a goal from Connor Aspinall in the waning seconds. In the end, the Lakers lost 19-9, making their record 0-2 on the season
