Softball Splits With St Lawrence in Home Opener

OSWEGO, NY – The SUNY Oswego softball team hosted the St Lawrence Saints in a home opening double header Saturday afternoon on the Lakers Softball Field. The Lakers took game one 7-0 but fell to the Saints in game two 9-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:
After two scoreless innings, the Laker offense awoken when Fiona Higgins singled to the pitcher sending home Mackenzie Carlson. Ellie Mahoney then hit a SAC Fly to centerfield that scored Kira Wright. Lily Fanea singled home Fiona Higgins and Fanea scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0 in favor of Oswego after three innings.

In the fourth, Ellie Mahoney singled home Kira Wright after she reached on an error.

To add an insurance run in the 6th, Lillian Haggerty singled, stole second, advanced to third on a SAC fly from Mackenzie Carlson, and scored on a single from Grace DiPalma to make the score 7-0.

On the mound Fiona Higgins threw all seven innings for the Lakers striking out 9, walking 1, and only allowing 2 hits.

The Lakers won game one 7-0.

Game 2:
In game two, the Saints offense was on display scoring seven runs in the second, and one in the fifth.

It took until the third inning  for the Lakers to score when Tahlia Gerardi hit a SAC fly to centerfield scoring Kira Wright.

In the fifth, the Lakers got a rally started when Tahlia Gerardi singled and advanced to second on an error. She went on to score on a single from Lily Fanea. Kylie Detz singled next, and Jenna Mills stepped in to pinch hit smashing a double to left center scoring both Kylie Detz and Lily Fanea. The Lakers added four runs in the inning cutting the lead down to 8-4.

On the mound, Chelsea Sellars and Fiona Higgins both were in action for the Lakers.

The Lakers fell in game two, 9-4.

WHATS NEXT
Lakers softball will head to SUNY Oneonta on Friday April 5th for a double header with the Red Dragons starting at 3:00 PM.
