Lakers Slay Red Dragons

OSWEGO, NY. - The Oswego State Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Oneonta Red Dragons in a SUNYAC conference matchup, and came out on top by a score of 19-8. The Lakers also took today's game as an opportunity to honor their seniors, Bella Lembo, Maria Busaglia, Katie Fierro, Sarah Kamide, Erin Cody, and Julia Quirk, for all of their hard work and dedication to the team during their time in Oswego.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Oswego 19 (6-4 , 2-1 SUNYAC), Oneonta 8 (2-5 , 1-1 SUNYAC)

Location: Laker Turf Stadium | Oswego, NY

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers started things slow, as the Red Dragons found the net first, but Sophie Ruschin responded very quickly with a goal of her own, which Sela Wiley followed up with another straight from the draw. Oneonta would score two more, taking a 3-2 lead, but Sela Wiley would tie it up at three goals a piece, closing out the first period.

The Red Dragons were once again the first to score in the second period. But just like the previous period, the Lakers responded quickly, as it was Katie Fierro who found the back of the net this time. Sela Wiley would score her third goal of the day shortly after, but the deadlock couldn't be broken, as Oneonta went down the other end, and tied the game back up at 5-5.

A plethora of unanswered goals from Noelle Smith, Sophie Ruschin, and Bella Lembo would make it 8-5 with 8 minutes to play in the second period. Noelle Smith would score one more, and Sarah Kamide would demonstrate some heroics in net to close out the half, with the Lakers leading 9-5.

Oneonta scored first for a third time, taking 5 minutes to break through the Lakers defense, but the Lakers went on a scoring spree after that. Katie Fierro and Sela Wiley scored 2 goals each, and Bella Lembo added one more to the tally, making it 14-6 for Oswego after 3 periods of play.

Sela Wiley would open the scoring in the fourth, just a minute into the period. After Oneonta took a couple back, Bella Lembo would score 2 more goals, and Madison Davis would score her first 2 goals of the day, which would finish off the game, as the Lakers won 19-8.
