HOW IT HAPPENED
Â
The Lakers won the opening draw, pressuring the Canton defense early with shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Kangaroos also applied some pressure early on, but Sarah Kamide held strong. The game remained scoreless until Sydney Dunn of Canton was shown a yellow card. Madison Davis took the man-up advantage and scored with 7:06 left in the first. The momentum continued, as Isabella Lembo scored only a minute later. The Oswego defense was holding strong, until a wayward pass from Sarah Kamide led to a 2-on-0 breakaway for the Kangaroos, which resulted in their first goal of the game. After that, Isabella Lembo struck again, scoring 2 more goals within 30 seconds of each other. With 40 seconds to go, the Kangaroos netted a second goal, leaving the Lakers ahead 4-2 after 15 minutes of play.
Â
The second quarter started the same as the first, as Oswego controlled the draw, and peppered the Canton defense with shots. Despite this, it took the Lakers nearly 5 minutes to score, as Cassidy Croce got things going with a goal for Oswego. The Kangaroos struck back just 2 minutes later, keeping the game in reach. The scoring slowed down for a bit, until Julia Quirk, Katie Fierro, Madison Davis, and Cassidy Croce all found the back of the net in the final 3 minutes, extending the Lakers' lead to 9-3 entering the halftime break.
Â
The Lakers once again controlled the draw, and Isabella Lembo wasted no time, scoring her fourth goal of the game just 24 seconds into the third quarter. Noelle Smith, Madison Davis, and Maria Buscaglia all added to the scoring for Oswego, and the Kangaroos seemed to have no answer for the Lakers' dominant performance. Things slowed down once again, until Isabella Lembo scored again with 30 seconds left, bringing Oswego's total to 14 goals through 3 quarters of play.
Â
After winning the opening draw, the Kangaroos received a yellow card, giving Oswego another man-up opportunity, which Sela Wiley capitalized on, scoring her first goal of the game with 12 minutes to play. With 8:30 to play Julia Quirk added another goal to the tally. The Kangaroos clapped back with their first goal since the second quarter, cutting the lead down to 12, but Sela Wiley scored again with 2 minutes left, which would be the last goal of the game. Oswego State won 17-5, after a last second consolation goal from the Kangaroos, improving their record to 2-2 on the season.
