Lakers Tame The Mustangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Oswego State Men's Lacrosse team kicked off their spring break by traveling to Morrisville, N.Y. this afternoon. After starting out 0-3, the Lakers were on the hunt for their first win of the year, and they did so in blowout fashion, thrashing the Morrisville Mustangs by a score of 14 - 5

THE BASICS: Oswego: 14 (1-3, 0-0 SUNYAC),

Morrisville: 5 (0-4, 0-0 NAC)

Location: Drake Stadium | Morrisville, N.Y.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lakers wasted no time getting things going, as Connor Aspinall and Hayden Coney both scored a goal in the first two minutes of the game. Then, with 3:55 to go in the first, Corey O'Connor scored 3 goals in just 50 seconds, extending the Lakers lead. Another goal from Connor Aspinall would close out the quarter, as the Lakers led 6-0 after 15 minutes of play.

Corey O'Connor found the back of the net again on a man-up opportunity, with 11:30 to play in the quarter. But the Mustangs responded quickly, scoring their first goal of the game just a minute later. Jason Dongelewic scored next for the Lakers, increasing the lead to 7. From this point on, Seamus Hand and the Oswego defense held strong, not allowing another goal in the half. The Lakers entered the halftime break ahead 8-1 over the Mustangs

The Mustangs struck first in the second half, scoring a minute in, and starting to chip away at the deficit, but an Oswego goal from Austin Sroda, shifted the momentum back to the Lakers. Another goal from Corey O'Connor would make it 10 goals for the Lakers. The back and forth continued, as just one minute after a Morrisville goal, Max Brodman found the back of the net for Oswego, rounding out the third quarter at a score of 11-3

The Mustangs once again scored first, with 10 left to play in the game, but it was too little too late, as Garrett Elston responded with an Oswego goal at the other end just a minute later. Jason Dongelewic also added to the tally, but another Mustang goal kept the deficit the same as it had been. Jake Steffens would put one more shot in the net for the Lakers, and the game would finish with the Lakers on top 14-5.
