HOW IT HAPPENED
This was the second meeting of these two teams this season. Earlier this season the Lakers were on the road at Brockport and suffered a tough conference loss to the Golden Eagles. They looked for some revenge this afternoon in the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs.
Brockport came out with home field energy securing the first draw control and taking it right in for a goal in the first minute. Sela Wiley won the next draw and scored her first goal of the game to tie the game at one before we even finished a minute of play. Isabella Lembo scored at the seven-minute mark assisted by Wiley to tie the game once again, this time at 2. Lembo scored two more times before the end of the first (assisted by Wiley and Ruschin) giving the Lakers a 4-2 lead after one quarter.
After Brockport tied the game at 4, Oswego completed a clear and Lembo found Madison Davis for her first goal of the game. Six minutes later, right before the half expired, Madison Davis scored once again off a rebound and the Lakers took a 6-5 lead into half time.
Oswego built a small lead and only allowed one goal in the third quarter. Wiley scored first at 13:27 followed by Cassidy Croce (assisted by Madison Davis) at 11:02. Sophie Ruschin then scored her first goal of the game (assisted by Wiley) at 7:25 and with 15 minutes left to play, Oswego was ahead, 9-6.
The lone goal for the Lakers in the fourth quarter came from Sela Wiley with 7:27 remaining. Oswego had a few late free position attempts but was stopped by the Golden Eagle goalie. After a Brockport offensive surge, the two teams were locked at 10 goals apiece after four quarters and were heading for overtime. In overtime, Brockport won the opening draw control and tested Sarah Kamide in goal with a few shots that Kamide turned away. With just over a minute left, Brockport had a free position shot that barely snuck by Kamide and sent Brockport into the next round of the SUNYAC playoffs.
