PURCHASE, NY – The SUNY Oswego field hockey team opened their season on the road at Manhattanville University on Friday afternoon. After falling behind in the first half, the Lakers battled back to grab their first victory of the season, 3-1.

OW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers offense came out of the gate energized out-shooting the Valliant's 5-3 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Lakers continued that offensive surge taking 16 shots to Manhattanville's 5. However, the only goal of the half came from Manhattanville at the twenty-minute mark on an unassisted goal after a penalty corner. The Lakers headed to halftime down 1-0.
In took less than two minutes of play in the second half for Oswego to score their first goal of the season.
Madi Stuckart took the penalty corner and
Bryleigh Beauchat buried the goal at the 32:46 mark to tie the game at 1. Five minutes of game time later,
Julia Unger scored off a rebound from
Bryleigh Beauchat and gave the Lakers their first lead of the season, 2-1. The field began to flip both teams' way until the 52-minute mark when a penalty corner from Oswego lead to a
Madi Stuckart goal assisted by
Gabby Curtis. The lead grew to 3-1 and the Oswego defense stifled the Valliant's for the remaining time giving SUNY Oswego their first win of the season.
