HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lakers applied copious amounts of offensive pressure early on against the Highlanders, resulting in 21 total shots, 14 of them on goal.
Erika Yancey put the Lakers on the board with a boot that was able to sneak past the Highlander goalkeeper at 38:13 in the first half, off an assist by
Emma Rechtorovic. Less than 2 minutes later,
Amber McDermott put the Lakers up 2-0 off a feed from
Sabrina Schmitt. That lead held for the Lakers into halftime.
A Laker miscue resulted in an own goal coming out of the halftime break, setting the score at 2-1 still in favor of the Lakers. After the brief miscommunication, the Lakers got their footing and peppered the Highlanders with shots, resulting in
Erika Yancey picking up her 2nd goal of the evening, off a pass from
Courtney Key.
Sabrina Schmitt added another goal for good measure at 76:31 to put the icing on the cake for what was an offensive onslaught by the Lakers.
