Oswego, NY - The Oswego State women's hockey team opened regular season play on Friday night when they hosted the Vermont State Castleton Spartans.
The Basics
Oswego – 0 (0-0-0, 0-0-0 SUNYAC)
Castleton – 3 (1-0-0, 0-0-0 LEC)
Deborah F Stanley Arena I Oswego, NY
How It Happened
Despite the scoreline, the Lakers outshot the Spartans 38–33, peppering McCusker from start to finish. Several quality looks, including a third-period shot off the post, kept Oswego within striking distance before Castleton added a late empty-netter to seal the result.
Castleton opened the scoring midway through the first period and doubled the lead with a shorthanded tally late in the second. The Lakers continued to push in the final frame, earning multiple power-play chances and maintaining strong puck possession in the offensive zone, but McCusker turned aside every opportunity to earn the shutout.
Goaltender
Mia DeVivo made 29 saves in net for Oswego, holding strong through several Castleton power plays and keeping the Lakers within reach for much of the night.
What's Next
The Lakers will take on Castleton once again tomorrow afternoon starting at 3:00 PM in the Doborah F Stanley Arena.
