Oswego N.Y. — SUNY Oswego has announced men's wrestler
Avery Canzano and women's cross country runner
Kyra Pellegrino as the
Student-Athletes of the Month for November recognizing their outstanding performances throughout the month.
Avery Canzano has had an impressive start to the season for the Lakers wrestling team. At the Ithaca Invitational, Canzano won three matches in a row and ultimately finished 2
nd overall in the 184lb division. Then, at the NYS Collegiate open, in the freshman/sophomore division, he went had a perfect 5-0 record earning 1
st place at 184lbs. So far this season, Canzano has an overall record of 8-1.
Kyra Pellegrino had an outstanding season on the women's cross-country team. In the women's 6k at the SUNYAC championship, Pellegrino finished 3
rd overall with a time of 22:01.6. This was good enough to earn her First Team All SUNYAC recognition along with an induction into the SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Championship Hall of Fame. She then went on to the Niagara Regionals where she finished 7
th overall with a time of 22:04.8 which qualified her to the NCAA Championships. This was the first time in 22 years that a Lakers runner has qualified for the NCAA Championships. Kyra finished 79
th with a time of 22:41.0. Pellegrino now sits at 4
th, 5
th, and 7
th overall in the Lakers women's cross country 6k program record ranks.
