How it Happened

The Lakers and Red Dragons started the contest with a defensive battle, sitting tied 5–5 with five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Offense began to pick up late on both sides, highlighted by a 3-pointer from guard Bri Weaver that knotted the score at 10–10 with 3:10 left. Cortland, however, closed the frame on a small run to take a 4-point lead to end the quarter. Oswego found itself in early foul trouble, committing six early fouls.

Cortland extended its lead early, pulling ahead by double digits late into the 2nd quarter. Despite a strong defensive effort, Oswego trailed 31-19 going into the half. Weaver led the Lakers with six points at the break, while guard Sydney Hoefs added five points and seven rebounds.

The Lakers found success on offense in the third quarter. The Lakers responded with a basket from forward Giavanna White-Principio and another 3-pointer from Weaver, sparking a 7–0 run to close the quarter. Oswego outscored Cortland 18–17 in the frame, trimming the deficit to 48–37 heading into the fourth. The Lakers assisted on six of their made baskets in the period.

Early in the final quarter, White-Principio continued her strong second-half play, helping Oswego pull within single digits at 48–39. However, the Red Dragons' offense stormed back. Cortland Lusk scored 7 in a row to push the lead back to double digits. The Lakers' offense continued to fight back but were unable to close the gap, falling 61–46.
