Game Recap: Softball | | Luke Belanger

Softball takes 1 of 2 in their final day in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - In the last day of action from beautiful Myrtle Beach, the Lakers will head home as they take a huge game against UMPI and almost complete the comeback versus the Mounties of Mt. Aloysius.

GAME 1:
THE BASICS
Oswego 3 (5-4, 0-0 SUNYAC)
UMPI 1 (1-7, 0-0 NAC)
Myrtle Beach, SC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the last day of the long Myrtle Beach trip, teams were tired and that was evident in this one. It got off to a very slow start as the first run came from a Lily Fanea single that scored Kylie Detz. The Lakers were up 1-0.
  • UMPI responded nicely as their very own Zoe Stewart would sling an RBI double into the outfield to tie this up at 1.
  • Pitcher Gabriela Milazzo cleaned it up, not letting up a hit in the next two innings.
  • The go ahead runs for Oswego would come in the bottom of the 6th. They were sponsored by a Detz double that scored Grace Dipalma. Fanea would pick up her second RBI of the day when a single up the middle let Detz cross the plate.
  • Chelsea Sellers would come in to try to shut the Owls down and she did just that. The Lakers won 3-1 and Sellars would pick up the save.

WIN - Gabriela Milazzo (2-1)
LOSS - Gracelyn Walsh (1-5)
Luke Belanger's POTG - Lily Fanea (2 Hits, 2 RBI)

GAME 2:
THE BASICS
Oswego 3 (5-5, 0-0 SUNYAC)
Mt. Aloysius 4 (2-6, 0-0 AMCC)
Myrtle Beach, SC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Same story for the beginning of this one. Slow start as the first hit was recorded by Mattison Phinney in the bottom of the 2nd. Unfortunately for the Lakers nothing came out of it.
  • In the third, Lillian Haggerty and DiPalma would be on base for the Lakers. A double steal would put them both in scoring position. A sacrifice fly from Kylie Detz would let Haggerty score, making Oswego up 1.
  • Mt. Aloysius would respond very nicely in the top of the 4th. A fielder's choice RBi and then a rocket of a single by Isabela Marquez would score 3 for the Mounties. Oswego had to fight to get back in this one.
  • In the 4th, the Lakers left Tahlia Gerardi on base and the score remained 3-1.
  • Mt. Aloysius would grab some insurance with a Brenna Watts double that would increase their lead to 3.
  • In the 7th, the Lakers showed a lot of life. Fanea would single followed by DiPalma looking at 4 balls. Detz would also walk, the bases were loaded for Oswego and Gianna DeGonza came up big with a 2 RBI single. Oswego was within 1. Layla Trendowski would single but quick defense from the Mounties would prevent Detz from scoring. That's where it would end for the Lakers as Mt. Aloysius would prevail and win 4-3

WIN - Patricia Wagner (1-1)
LOSS - Maria Lutz (1-3)
Luke Belanger's POTG - Grace DiPalma (2 Hits, 1 R, 1 BB)
