HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Oswego struck first in the opening frame, capitalizing on heads-up baserunning from Grace Dipalma, who walked, stole two bases, and scored on a wild pitch to give the Lakers a 1–0 advantage. Oswego added another run in the fifth when
Kylie Detz, after being hit by a pitch and stealing second, scored on an RBI single by
Mackenzie Carlson to make it 2–0.
The lead, however, was short-lived.
RIT erupted for six runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, stringing together timely hits — including a two-run double by Kehl and a two-run home run by Cavotta — to seize control of the game. Starter
Chelsea Sellars held RIT scoreless through four but was relieved by Gabby Milazzo midway through the fifth. The Tigers tallied all six of their runs in that frame before Sellars returned to finish the game.
Despite showing patience at the plate with eight walks, the Lakers struggled to capitalize on scoring chances, leaving 13 runners stranded and striking out 13 times against RIT's Majot, who went the distance for the win.
Oswego's defense held firm with a clean sheet in the field — committing no errors — and notched stolen bases from both Dipalma and Detz.
Game 2
The Lakers came out strong, plating a run in the first after
Mackenzie Carlson reached on an error and eventually came home on a wild pitch. Oswego added to its lead in the third when Carlson, who had singled and stolen second, scored again on a groundout by
Ellie Mahoney, giving the Lakers a 2–0 cushion.
Senior pitcher
Maria Lutz was sharp early, keeping RIT scoreless through three innings and retiring the side in the third and sixth. She scattered seven hits over 6.1 innings, striking out three and walking four in a hard-luck loss.
RIT, however, chipped away — scoring an unearned run in the fourth before Minemier tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run to left. The decisive blow came in the seventh when the Tigers loaded the bases and Cavotta delivered a walk-off RBI single to seal the comeback.
Oswego's offense tallied six hits on the day, with Carlson, Wright, Dipalma, and Gerardi each contributing one.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Lakers will have a quick turnaround to come home and take on the New Paltz Hawks tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon starting at 1:00 PM.
